How does it work?When you contact us we’ll arrange to meet you for a free consultation, at this meeting we can also discuss your Commitment Ceremony and we will guide you through the various options and find out what you would like your ceremony to include. You will also have access to our collection of poems and readings which you might like to choose from. Your Commitment Ceremony will then be written for you and you will receive a first draft within 14 days (of receipt of your deposit) to which you can make any changes or additions if you wish. Your
Commitment Ceremony will be conducted by us on the day. Where can we hold our Commitment Ceremony?
You can hold your Commitment Ceremony anywhere you choose including outdoors or in any suitable venue (including ones not licensed for Civil Partnerships) for example:
- At home
- In your garden
- On a beach
- In a marquee
- A hotel or stately home
- In a castle
Is it legal?
A One Life Commitment Ceremony is held separately to the legal formalities of entering into a Civil Partnership, if you would like to do this we can make the arrangements with the Register Office for you to complete your Civil Partnership paperwork on a day of your choice. (The services of the Register Office are charged separately.)
Can we ask a Registrar to come to the venue?
Yes you can. If you choose to enter into a Civil Partnership and sign the paperwork on the day you can ask for a Registrar to come out to the venue which we can help to arrange. (In this case you will need to choose a venue licensed for Civil Partnerships.)
Can we write our own commitment vows?
Yes, or you can tell us what you’d like to say and we can write your vows for you.
Can we include our family and/or children in our Commitment Ceremony?
Yes, speak to us about ways you can incorporate your family and/ or children.
Are you Humanists?
We are not Humanists nor are we affiliated to any religion or belief system, this leaves you free to include the words, readings and contributions that you would like without any restrictions.
Can we include religion?
Yes, the choice of a fully non-religious ceremony or one which contains elements of religion is entirely yours.
Who will conduct our ceremony?
Your ceremony will be conducted by Maria, who has been performning ceremonies for over 10 years.
Can we hold a rehearsal?
Yes, our Commitment Ceremony includes a detailed handout to help you hold your own rehearsal the night before with your friends and family who will be involved in the ceremony - this is usually all you need. However if you would prefer to have a Ceremony Conductor help you with the walk through then this costs £180 on top of your ceremony price. .
Can we hold the Commitment Ceremony abroad?
Yes, subject to expenses we can arrange to come with you or we can create a personal ceremony script that you can take with you and you can ask another celebrant or friend can conduct the ceremony.
How much does a Commitment Ceremony cost?
Please see here for details of our prices and packages. Travel within 30 miles of Leeds and Basingstoke included, travel outside of this area is charged at 40p per mile and depending on the location of your chosen venue (over 4 hours travel) overnight accommodation may also be required.
Where are you based?We are based in Leeds, West Yorkshire and also have a base in London. We can conduct ceremonies in the following places: are available in the following cities and surrounding areas: North of England - Leeds, Huddersfield, Harrogate,York, Halifax, Sheffield, Bradford, Wakefield, Manchester, and all surrounding areas within Yorkshire, Lancashire, Derbyshire, County Durham and Cumbria, South of England – London, Basingstoke, Reading, Southampton, Oxford, Guildford and Winchester. Travel beyond these areas is a possibility and is subject to overnight accommodation and travel expenses.
